The top person is not allowed to pass. They can break grips and balance 100% but they are not allowed to pass the guard.

Meanwhile.

On the bottom. The person is trying to sweep 100% using some of the Open Guard techniques we’ve worked on.

This drill is a lot of fun and can be altered for your type of guard preference. You get a chance to experiment and play around in the position with a complete absence of the competitive nature of a full roll.

Since the eventual “winner” has been decided. You’re just playing around with the position on top and bottom.
